Forecastle Foundation and Apalachicola Riverkeeper Volunteers, #NaturallyAweseome

By Georgia Ackerman

I’m continually reminded that Apalachicola Riverkeeper volunteers are naturally awesome! Here’s an excerpt of an email I was delighted to find in my inbox recently from Lauren Hendricks, Board Chairwoman of the Forecastle Foundation:

“I cannot thank you, Rick and Roy enough for the incredible experience! I learned so much and the tour was exceptional. Roy is an incredible guide! My whole family loved it; we haven’t stopped talking about it. I really have a good understanding of your work and the importance of it after the tour.”

I was headed out of state last month when Lauren Hendricks contacted me to let us know that she’d be visiting St. George Island and Apalachicola with family members. I was unable to meet up with Lauren due to travel, so volunteers Roy Ogles and Rick Zelznak cheerfully jumped in and coordinated a motorboat tour for Lauren’s crew. Exploring the lower Apalachicola River, including East River and the St. Marks, Roy skillfully shared the connectedness of the Apalachicola River and Bay with the group.

The Forecastle Foundation (#NaturallyAwesome), committed to protecting biodiverse regions, is an Apalachicola Riverkeeper supporter.  In fact, Forecastle is a sponsor of this year’s Franklin County Coastal Clean Up.  Volunteer, Ada Long has steadfastly coordinated the Clean Up effort in Franklin County for more than a decade. Ada and the site coordinators recruit and plan every aspect of the Clean Up–which results in tons of debris being removed from our coastal waters and land.
So, please save the date.  The Coastal Clean Up Day is Saturday, September 21, 2019.  Jump in for a few hours with other volunteers who will put their love of Apalachicola River and Bay into action.  See you there!
Thank you Roy. Thank you Rick. Thank you Ada. Thank you Forecastle Foundation! You are all #NaturallyAwesome!
