Volunteer kayaking team kicks off RiverTrek 2019 campaign

By Doug Alderson

July 20, 2019– After Hurricane Michael disrupted our plans last year, we are launching the Apalachicola RiverTrek October 8-12 with high hopes. We have a tremendous team of 16 RiverTrekkers this year hailing from Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Some have completed the entire Trek several times, while other are new to the 107-mile journey.

In the coming weeks, our team will host events in their respective communities to raise awareness about the ecological threats facing the Apalachicola River and Bay. We have also begun fundraising through personal appeals to friends, relatives, co-workers and businesses. As with every RiverTrek, a friendly competition has begun as to who can raise the most money and at the moment we have a three-way tie for first place! That’s where you come in. Support a RiverTrekker and help them over the top. All funds raised support the advocacy, outreach and education work of Apalachicola Riverkeeper.

Simply peruse the RiverTrek page and click beneath their name, or you can support the entire team by clicking a link near the bottom of the page. You can donate with PayPal or with Debit or Credit Card. RiverTrek has turned into the major annual fundraiser and awareness campaign for the Apalachicola Riverkeeper, so help us reach this year’s goal of $60,000!

Volunteers Doug Alderson and Harry Smith are the coordinators of the RiverTrek 2019 team.
