Tallahassee members turn out for Ice Cream Social

May 7, 2019

Below the Dam Band belted out harmonious tunes under the majestic oak trees at Goodwood’s Jubilee Cottage, while Tallahassee members and supporters of Apalachicola Riverkeeper piled toppings on their scooped ice cream.   This year, there were many young families in attendance and the kids created the best personal sundaes! Special thanks to the Fundraising-Special Event Committee, band members, toppings team, volunteer ice cream servers, Corrinna Carroll and Karly Zelznak (their 3rd year of dishing it up for the good of the cause)   for lending your time and talents to make the Ice Cream Social festive and fun.

We were especially eager to introduce the RiverTrek 2019 Team members that were able to join us for the afternoon. The RiverTrek crew will paddle the entirety of the Apalachciola River in October after spending several months raising awareness and funds in their respective communities about the ecological importance of the Apalachicola River and Bay.

The Ice Cream Social became an annual tradition in 2013 upon the suggestion of Doug Alderson, longtime volunteer. Doug has led numerous kayaking trips for Apalachicola Riverkeeper and he co-coordinated the annual RiverTrek campaign from 2012-2016. Harry Smith, owner of Harry Smith Outdoors, joins Doug this year in coordinating the campaign. A subcommittee and support crew will also assist in making RiverTrek another successful campaign.
