Atlanta High School Students on Owl Creek

January 16, 2020– I spent today on Owl Creek with students from Westminster School in Atlanta. We paddled the creek and also engaged in thoughtful discussion of the ecology of the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint system and current political and legal issues affecting our shared ACF Basin. Yesterday, the group traveled with the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve on a river and bay tour. This is the second year educator Dave McMahan brought his students to the Apalachicola River Basin as part of the school’s Discovery Program, which seeks to foster environmental awareness, responsibility and compassion among participants. It was certainly encouraging to see young adults having fun while learning the “big picture” connectivity of the water of the Apalachicola-Chatthoochee-Flint Basin.
