Meet Director of Outreach, Dani Davis

July 11, 2022-Dani Davis recently joined Apalachicola Riverkeeper as Director of Outreach. Dani succeeds Cameron Baxley, who took the helm as Riverkeeper in May. Georgia Ackerman continues as Executive Director. You can meet the whole team here.

Though a native Floridian, Dani grew up on the northern outskirts of suburban Atlanta. Here, she found her home exploring the forests and creeks of southern Appalachia. This love for wild spaces eventually brought her to Tallahassee to pursue a master’s degree at Florida State University, where she studied barrier island ecology in the shores of St. George Island. Since moving to north Florida, Dani has gotten as involved as possible in local conservation organizations and is so honored to join Apalachicola Riverkeeper in their mission to protect a region that she is so passionate about.

Currently, Dani serves on the board at Florida Native Plants Society: Magnolia Chapter. She’s been an active volunteer with Florida Forest Service: Plant Conservation Program,  Florida Native Plants Society: Torreya Keepers and the Coastal Plains Institute. Prior to moving to Florida for graduate school, Dani worked as an outdoor educator and naturalist at the Newman Wetlands Center, a small nature center serving the communities of south Atlanta.

Dani’s can be frequently found exploring bogs, paddling under cypress trees, or making art that highlights the unique biodiversity of our region. She’s looking forward to kayaking the entirety of the Apalachicola River this October with the RiverTrek 2023 Team.
