Tallahassee Area Supporters Turn Out for a Summer Social

June 4, 2023—It sure felt like a summer reunion at today’s Ice Cream Social at the Goodwood Museum and Gardens. Thank you, Tallahassee area supporters! We truly appreciate you. It was heartwarming to see many long-time members, along with lots of new faces. Everyone enjoyed ice cream with a toppings bar, while listening to a terrific mix of eclectic mix of music by Edessa–from Dolly Patron, to Prince, to the Avett Brothers. Members of the RiverTrek 2023 team were announced and we met several of ‘Trek volunteers who were able to attend. We also heard brief updates from staff. Board members mingled and answered questions about current projects and upcoming events. Here are photos.

This annual tradition of eating ice cream under the shade of live oak trees was crafted in 2013 by Doug Alderson. At the time, Doug and I were volunteers who coordinated the Apalachicola RiverTrek, taking over for Earl Morrogh. By spring of 2013, I was a new board member at Apalachicola Riverkeeper (vice president to Tom Herzog) in charge of a newly formed Fundraising-Special Events Committee. In talking to Doug one day I said, “Doug, we need to have a Tallahassee awareness event or some sort. What should we do?” Without hesitation, Doug responded, “An ice cream social would be fun.” He was solidly correct. It’s been fun for a decade. Let’s keep it going!

Keep an eye out for a Marianna area social, planned for September 2023.

Special thanks to Native Nurseries for providing plants for a fundraising raffle. Also, thank you to Goodwood Museum and Gardens for the lovely, historic setting.
