Calhoun County Residents Meet Up

May 31, 2024–Georgia Ackerman met up with Blountstown residents today at Neal Landing to discuss ARK activities and hear updates from the group. A primary concern expressed by those in attendance was the Clearwater Land and Minerals permit. The company plans to drill an exploratory oil and gas well in floodplain of the Apalachicola River in Calhoun County between the Apalachicola River and the Dead Lakes. Several years ago. Cholla Petroleum sought to drill at the same site. Long time supporters Karen and Travis MacClendon coordinated the meeting. The group decided to informally designate themselves as the Calhoun Chapter of Apalachicola Riverkeeper and plans to meet quarterly. Georgia provided an update on Riverkeeper programs and  answered questions about the drilling plan. She also let the group know an Ice Cream Social is planned in Blountstown late this year. Watch website for details.
