June 12, 2024–Our RiverTrek campaign is underway! Meet each dynamic volunteer paddling team here. They are eagerly launching their individual fundraising campaigns within their respective communities. Later in October, this crew will launch their packed kayaks in Chattahoochee, Florida for a 5 day wilderness immersion trip along the Apalachicola River.
RiverTrek is Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s largest awareness and fundraising campaign of the year. All donations support the outreach, advocacy, education and collective research work of Apalachicola Riverkeeper. This year’s kayaking team includes Ashley Leonard (Apalachicola), Benny Gresch (Apalachicola), Caitlin McCauley (Apalachicola), Chris Watkins (Tallahassee), Doug Alderson (Tallahassee), Greg Krivonak (Apalachicola), Lee Rigby (Tallahassee), Marie Fraser (Tallahassee), Nithya Guthikonda (Peachtree City, GA), Paula Carroll (Tallahassee), Rebecca Means (Tallahassee) and Tom Herzog (Carrabelle).
Several of the team members are new to the RiverTrek expedition. This includes, Ashley, Benny, Marie and Nithya. Repeat paddlers are Doug, Greg, Lee, Rebecca, and Tom. After living together outdoors on the river for 107+ miles, the group will know each other quite well! Enjoy this WFSU RiverTrek short film.
