October 24, 2024- The 2024 Yamaha Bassmaster Redfish Cup Championship will take place in Apalachicola for the first time this weekend, October 25-27. Ten teams of anglers will depart from Scipio Creek Marina at 7:30am on each of the three days, returning at day’s end for weight reveal. Turbulent waters from the passing of Hurricanes Helene and Mitchell along with cloudy conditions created by the large number of migrating shrimp present make for some very interesting conditions that will surely pose a challenge for the anglers. Redfish, also known as red drum, are a popular and commercially important fish species. After conservation efforts began in the 1980’s, the species has recovered significantly. The tournament follows a catch-weigh-release format to support these conservation efforts. Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s sole mission is to work toward advocacy, protection, preservation and restoration of the river’s natural systems to ensure healthy populations of commercial and recreationally important species are present for all to enjoy long into the future.
