Dear Members,
It felt like a class reunion today! While online gatherings via Zoom get the job done, nothing beats the real thing. It was so good to see you in Eastpoint for our annual member meeting and dinner! Here’s a photo gallery of our member meeting and dinner.
We all seemed to experience true gladness in seeing the Apalachicola Riverkeeper Board of Directors, volunteers, members and staff in person together at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve center. Our afternoon was comprised of presentations, board election, food and merriment. It was a joyous, memorable gathering. Thank you for your support!
After introductions by outgoing board president Kim Sash, members voted on a new board roster. Meet our incoming Board of Directors, including the executive committee of Dodie Alber (president), David Hilton (vice-president), Clay Robinson (treasurer) and Katie McCormick (secretary). Ken Jones and John Tracy provided updates on our Slough Restoration Project.
Speaking of updates, please join me in welcoming Cameron Baxley to the Apalachicola Riverkeeper team. Cameron will come aboard as Director of Outreach and Advocacy in early April. We all wish Doug Alderson an adventure-filled new chapter and thank him for his excellent work. I’m certain all our paths will continue to intersect on land and water.
Here are my presentation slides.
Here’s a WFSU interview with Ken and other project members.
Here’s Ken Jones providing an update during a virtual meeting in 2021.
Special thanks to Dodie Alber, Lynn Wilder, Kim Sash, Susan Macken, Diane Hines and the Fundraising -Special Events Committee for aligning all the moving parts on event planning (and there were many). Thank you, Oyster City Brewing Company for the refreshments. A big shout out to the hands-on board and staff team that set up for the gathering and stuck around to break down and clean up. Many hands make the light work. I especially enjoyed visiting with board members and volunteers. Everyone kept eagerly asking, “what else needs done?” and then just did it. Thank you all!
Truly,
Georgia Ackerman
Riverkeeper and Executive Director
P.S. We reminded everyone that RiverTrek application deadline is rapidly approaching, April 15.
