Great Turnout for Kill The Drill Opposition Event at DEP

A  large group came out in support of Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s Kill the Drill Opposition event on the steps of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection headquarters in Tallahassee Florida on Monday, December 9 2024.  Many in the crowd were waving signs and chanting “Kill the Drill” and “Save the Bay”.   After some stirring remarks from Executive Director Susan Anderson, she introduced the various speakers who had come to voice their opposition to the planned oil drilling project.  Speakers included local business owners Xochitl Bervera of Water is Life Oysters, Danielle Davidson of Forgotten Coast Fly Company, Jeff Wren of Rattlesnake Cove Oysters, Captain TJ Sanders of LuckyFly Charters, Hunter Levin from Captain’s Collective podcast, and David Damon of JP Roberts Hurricane Shutters.  Other speakers included Adriane Elliott from the Apalachicola City Council and a surprise appearance from legendary marine biologist and environmental activist Jack Rudloe of the Gulf Coast Marine Specimen Lab.  Several students from Cornerstone Learning Community spoke as well.  Thanks to all these speakers for raising their voices in defense of our priceless river and bay, and to everyone who showed up in support of this vital cause.  Become a member or make a donation today to help our efforts. Every little bit helps!
