Annual Member Meeting includes guest speaker Susan Cerulean

Join us on Saturday, March 26 at Apalachicola’s Battery Park Community Center from 4-7 PM (EST). The center is located at the foot of the Gorrie Bridge in Apalachicola.

Annual Member Meeting 2015

Guest speaker, Susan Cerulean is a fervent naturalist & writer. Her most recent book Coming to Pass: Florida’s Coastal Islands in a Gulf of Change recently won the 2015 Gold Medal for Florida Nonfiction. You can read more about Susan and her work at www.comingtopass.com

In preparation for our annual dinner, the planning team members casually tossed around the idea of replacing our traditional potluck with a catered dinner thinking it might simplify things. Would this make it easier for everyone by not worrying about bringing a dish? And what if everyone brings the same dish? Will we have enough food? (I assume these to be typical big potluck dinner concerns, of course).

Fortunately, we quickly came to our senses and dropped this catered dinner idea when we begin reminiscing about the potlucks of years gone by. Seems like many Apalachicola Riverkeeper members are serious foodies. Have you been to an annual member meeting?

You can picture it. Tasty cheese spreads, homemade guacamole and salsa, gourmet baked casseroles, secret-recipe desserts and oysters shucked by our very own Riverkeeper, Dan Tonsmeire. The buffet tables are typically crammed with colorful, scrumptious food.

Suffice to say, we eat well at our annual member meeting. It’s tradition. No time to whip up a pasta salad? No worries. Come on over anyway. Believe me, there will be plenty of food!

The Silent Auction tables will also runneth over with original art pieces, framed photos, adventure trips, and a weekend stay at the Bay Queen— just to name a few. Bring your checkbook and bid with passion! All proceeds support the important work of Apalachicola Riverkeeper.

Riverkeeper staff will update us on organizational happenings and Susan Cerulean will share excerpts of her book and share stories about her love of North Florida. Good times for all!

We look forward to seeing everyone.
