Many taxpayer, insurance and conservation groups are opposing H.R. 1264, the "Multiple Peril Insurance Act," which is scheduled for a vote in the full U.S. House of Representatives this Thursday. According to the attached letter by Corps Reform Network Member American Rivers:
"Unfortunately, H.R. 1264 would result in the taxpayers subsidizing even more development in hazard-prone and ecologically-sensitive coastal areas and floodplains. This will impact the beneficial functions these areas provide including storm protection, clean water, and wildlife habitat, not to mention the natural beauty which accounts for billions of tourism dollars annually."
H.R. 1264 will incentivize more development by creating a federal wind insurance program, and adding it to the National Flood Insurance Program. We should be making it harder, not easier, to place risky development on our sensitive coastlines that are most vulnerable to wind storms.
We will be in touch if a member in your district is a key vote on this bill. In the meantime, to send a customizable action alert, feel free to visit NWF's action alert page at https://online.nwf.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=1238.
Thanks for helping to 'Protect and Restore America's Rivers, Wetlands and Coasts.'
