  • Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint Stakeholders (ACFS) group, a founding member, www.acfstakeholders.org, moving from “water wars” to “water vision” between Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.   Your Riverkeeper, Dan Tonsmeire, was chosen as the  2011 Chair of the 56-member Governing Board of the ACFS.

  • Seedstock Sanctuary Plan and Lead Voluteer Organization for Monitoring Impacts for Deep Water Horizon Disaster, the Apalachicola Riverkeeper’s projects to document impactrs and protect critical oyster, sea grass, salt marsh, and mangrove habitat in Apalachicola Bay from the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.   

  • 2005 Community Steward Award for sustained grassroots advocacy, 1000 Friends of Florida.

  • 2004 Water Conservation Organization of the Year , Florida Wildlife Federation.

  • 2003 Conservation Award, Apalachee Audubon

  •  2002 “Outstanding Achievements and Excellence in Coastal Conservation to Create A More Sustainable Future for Florida”, Council for Sustainable Florida.

  • Apalachicola Bay Shoreline Restoration Project saving 300 feet of shoreline at Indian Creek Park in Eastpoint, Florida removing fill, restoring the shoreline to natural grade, and creating natural shoreline habitats of marsh grass, oyster reef, and  upland grasses, shrubs and trees.   More than 80 Franklin County students  are helping on this project.
